Sun, sand, sea and Scotland: Scotland's role in empire, slavery and the Caribbean will take place on Thursday 10 October at 18.00, venue to be confirmed. Amnesty International is holding an exhibition of photos by Julio Etchart, taken in Chile during the Pinochet years, to mark the 40th anniversary of the military coup at the Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch, London EC2A 3EA. Women and sport: the Culture, Media and Sport select committee has called for evidence on what barriers remain to women's participation in sport and media coverage of it. Data Journalism Bootcamp: This five-day workshop on database journalism is designed for reporters with little or no knowledge of data journalism and will give a foundation in the essential skills, 11-15 September, City University London, EC1V 4PB. The Thomson Foundation is sponsoring a new award, young journalist from the developing world, for the UK Foreign Press Association Awards. Journalists under 30, working in countries with a gross domestic product per capita of less than $20,000 will be eligible. The International Federation of Journalists world congress in Dublin voted to renew the campaign to call on the Israeli authorities to recognise the IFJ press card. An international petition has been launched, available in English, Arabic, French and Spanish, addressed to UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon. Please sign the petition today
