Action for Rail will be holding a day of action at train stations around the country onTuesday 13th August.
This is the day that the inflation figure for July is announced which is the figure used to calculate next year’s rail fare increases. Yet again, passengers are going to be stung for increases in ticket prices between 4 and 9 percent. Rail fares continue to rise over three times faster than wages.
Rail travel should be a public service that links our communities and accessible to all. We think that privatisation has been a costly and wasteful mess and public ownership is the only sustainable way of delivering a public service with cheaper fares.
We would like to invite you to join us on our day of action. We will be at the following stations (more to be confirmed shortly):
· Southampton
· Glasgow
· Birmingham New Street
· Chelmsford
· Rochester
· Ashford
· London Waterloo
· Putney
· Weymouth
· Bristol Temple Meads
· Liverpool
· South Shields
· Doncaster
Please let us know if you would be able to join us at any of those stations OR if you would like to host something at your own local station.
We will be happy to provide you with postcards to give out to passengers on the day.
If you would like to get involved, please email Tahera Solim at TUC at tsolim@tuc.org.uk
Regards, Matt
